PLAINFIELD, NJ - The Plainfield Symphony Orchestra will present its annual Family Concert on Saturday, Jan. 27 at 3 p.m. under the baton of Maestro Charles Prince. The program, entitled “A Family Affair,” will
feature the Young Pianist Competition of New Jersey Gold Prize winner, and will also include
Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s Piano Concerto No. 1 in B-flat minor, Op.23 is one of the most
famous of all classical music pieces. All three movements of this deeply expressive concerto are
The expansive, sweeping opening movement is showy; the middle movement contains soulful melodies with beautiful interplay between the soloist and orchestra; the finale is an electrifying thrill from start to finish.
YPCNJ Gold Prize winner William Chen will be the soloist. Recipient of numerous other competition awards, he performs in many public venues for a variety of audiences, and has appeared frequently in festivals around the world.
The Toy Symphony features some toy instruments and is a very kid-friendly, endearing work.
A march by John Philip Sousa, led by a surprise guest conductor, will round out the program.
