Senior Center of the Chathams Announces December Programs

Senior Center of the Chathams announces its programs for the month of December.  The Center is located at 58 Meyersville Rd., Chatham and residents of the Chathams, as well as non-residents, are welcome at all events and programs.  For more information, call 973.635.4565.

TECH SUPPORT FOR SENIORS – Thurs., Dec. 7, 3 - 4pm.  For assistance with your smartphone, laptop, other personal devices.  Call Center at 973.635.4565 to schedule a 1-on-1 appt with a Chatham High School student volunteer. 

HALLELUJAH - Mon., Dec. 11, 12:30 pm.  Get in the holiday spirit by exploring the popular Hallelujah chorus from Handel’s “Messiah” with George Marriner Maull, artistic director of The Discovery Orchestra and Emmy-nominated television host.  Find out what makes this chorus one of the most popular ever written!  Refreshments follow the presentation.  Must sign up. This free event is sponsored by Chatham Hills Subacute Care Center.

NUTRITION SERIES: LIGHTENING-UP HOLIDAY FOODS – Tues., Dec 12, 12:45 pm. Jenn Luster, RD of Chatham ShopRite, returns to demonstrate how you can adjust favorite holiday treats so that they are healthy yet still delicious. 

HOLIDAY CONCERT – Thurs., Dec. 14, 10:30am.  The Chatham Middle School Pops Orchestra will be performing holiday (Christmas and Hanukkah) and seasonal songs.  To make this event, even more, fun and memorable, song sheets will be passed out for an audience sing-a-long.  Free lunch follows concert (with thanks to Board of Trustees). Limited seating. Sign up is required – but good singing voices are not required.  

BLOOD PRESSURE SCREENING – Thurs., Dec. 21 at 11am – 12:30pm.  Provided by Chatham Hills Subacute Care Center.  Walk-ins ok. 

PICKLEBALL – Tuesdays, 10 am – 12 pm & Thursdays, 10 am – 2 pm.  Two courts available in the Chatham Twp Municipal Bldg gym.  Limited paddles available – please bring own equipment if possible. 

SOCIAL DANCING  – Tuesdays, 1 – 2:30 pm. Eight-class sessions led by Robert J. Sweeney--dance instructor, competition judge and former dance studio co-owner with 30+ years experience in standard and Latin dance. Current session (dance – fox trot) runs Dec. 5 to Feb. 6, 2018. Wear loose clothing; avoid rubber soled shoes.  Partner not needed. Fee $65/session.    Recent studies have shown that dancing is not only good for the body, but good for mental strength as well.  And it’s fun!
