This November, the Summit Area YMCA will be hosting a variety of activities and events to honor and celebrate our Veterans and Active Military Personnel and their families in addition to offering a special membership offer for active Military.
Events set for Monday, November 11, include:
- Coffee set up in Summit YMCA lobby to thank our Veterans and Active Military
- Holiday cards for Summit Area YMCA members to sign and be sent to United Soldiers and Sailors of America, which will be sent to active duty military overseas at the Summit YMCA
- A Thank You service card project for the Vets at Lyons VA Hospital at the Summit YMCA
- A Wish List and Holiday Gift collection for various units at Lyons VA Hospital and Operation Chill Out for homeless veterans at the Summit YMCA
- Veterans Day Breakfast hosted by the Berkeley Heights YMCA at Veterans of Foreign Wars in Berkeley Heights

Did you know, the Summit Area YMCA offers FREE MEMBERSHIPS to active military?
The Summit Area YMCA (which includes the Berkeley Heights YMCA and Summit YMCA) offers a Military Outreach Initiative to address the needs of families of deployed military personnel who live far from a military installation and require access to child development, family strengthening, and health and well-being programming. Eligible military families and personnel include active duty or deployed personnel of the Armed Services, their spouses and families (dependent children). FREE Military memberships are given in 6 month intervals and are renewed by request.

As a nonprofit, we are committed to enhancing the lives of individuals and families in our community. With the generous donations of members, donors, and partners in the community from funds raised during our Annual Campaign and special events, the Summit Area YMCA is able to offer financial assistance to ensure that everyone, regardless of age, income, or background has the opportunity to learn, grow and thrive.
Families with low or moderate household income or those who are experiencing financial hardship are encouraged to apply. Financial assistance can be used for membership, child care, summer camp and/or enrichment and sports programs where additional fees apply, such as soccer and swimming lessons.
