The Summit Area YMCA swim team functions not only as a team but a family of supportive members that encourage and guide each other. The team runs as a cooperative effort of swimmers, coaches, professional Y staff, and parents. “As a competitive swim program, our goal is to offer a high quality program that enables team members to develop their full potential as individuals and athletes. We promote character development, good sportsmanship and competitive success in a constructive team environment,” commented Laura Riddell, Summit YMCA Director of Competitive Aquatics.

The team has year-round training at the Summit YMCA’s 6-lane, 25-yard pool, complete with state-of-the-art Colorado Timing System. Training moves outdoors in the summer to a 50 meter long course Olympic size pool. Swimmers participate in dual meets, YMCA championships, as well as USA Swim meets.

The Summit Area YMCA swim team embodies the YMCA’s philosophy of building a healthy body, mind, and spirit. Swimmers are encouraged to maximize their potential. Participation will build confidence, develop leadership skills, and help athletes set and achieve goals.

“The support I get from being a part of the Summit Area YMCA swim team is incredible. They’re always there for you no matter what—whether if you do bad in a race, or if you did well in a race, they’ve always had my back." said Margie, Summit Area YMCA swim team alumni. "I've learned a lot about the importance of setting goals and working hard to accomplish them, but also that it’s okay to fail because not only did I have a lot of support, I just needed to work harder next time. Through the Summit Area YMCA Swim Team, I’ve gained the confidence and respect for myself that I’ve always wanted to achieve.”

As a nonprofit, the YMCA offers financial assistance to qualifying families. For financial assistance to participate on the swim team, please contact Patty Facchinei at 908.273.3330 x 1174 to obtain an application and further information.

The Summit Area YMCA Swim Team is affiliated with the Summit YMCA, located in the heart of downtown Summit, NJ. The address is 67 Maple Street, Summit, NJ 07901.
