BERKELEY HEIGHTS, NJ - Thanks in part to a generous $3,000 grant awarded from Investors Foundation, students in the Berkeley Heights public schools will benefit from a program series which fosters kindness, respect, awareness and empathy in their everyday lives.

The program series entitled “Kindness and Respect in Words and Actions” is comprised of the following:

  • “Only One You” - Program for all students at Mary Kay McMillin Early Childhood Center which stems from Linda Kranz’s book in which little fish learn how they are each unique individuals, but together with others who may be different in some ways, make a beautiful community as they swim through life.
  • “Student Education and Experience Disability Sensitivity”- Interactive presentation provides fourth grade students at Hughes, Mountain Park and Woodruff Elementary School a comprehensive understanding of various disabilities and the importance of acceptance, inclusion and social responsibility.
  • “Don’t Press Send” - Presentation provides fourth grade and fifth grade students at Hughes, Mountain Park and Woodruff Elementary School the tools for engaging in positive and kind online communication and increases awareness of the impact of social media.  A parent presentation is scheduled as well.
  • “Ryan’s Story” – Assembly for all Columbia Middle School students with a powerful message about the potentially devastating impact of bullying to all involved.  The presenter, John Halligan, is a dad who lost his thirteen year old son to suicide.

The Berkeley Heights Education Foundation is a volunteer-run nonprofit organization that raises funds to enhance educational excellence in the Berkeley Heights Public Schools by sponsoring programs that support innovative instruction, strengthen school-community ties, enrich students’ appreciation of the arts and humanities, and augment technology resources throughout the district.
