Dear Susan: I’ve had my makeup brushes for a few years now and I love them. However they’re looking a little grimy. What’s the best way to  clean my makeup brushes?

First, rinse with cool water and add a squirt of dish soap. Gently work in the soap and then rinse in the direction of the brush fibers. Always be  gentle with your brush bristles. Then rinse with cold water and gently squeeze dry with a paper towels.   Lay flat to finish drying for at least 12 hours . Once the brush is clean, gently reshape with your fingers.

Dear Susan: I went to a bargain hair cutting salon a few months ago and they cut my hair so short! I’ve been trying to grow my hair back in but it’s like watching grass grow. Is there a way to make my hair grow faster?

How terrible! We’ve all gotten a bad haircut at some point and it just seems our hair can’t grow in fast enough. We can help hair grow in with these tips: first rinse your hair in cold water, as this will help to close the cuticle and give shine and keep the moisture in. Try not to always put your hair in ponytails and if you must, switch the position. This will prevent breakage of your hair from pulling it tight. Don't wrap your hair in big towels—the hair can get caught in the fibers of the towel causing pressure and breakage. When you detangle wet hair, be sure to start from the bottom and work your way up — we often instinctively go from the scalp down, but that just brings small tangles into one large knot

Consider trying hair-boosting supplements. Your body requires many vital nutrients to create new hair, from ample protein to a slew of essential minerals.   Apply an oil or mask treatment once a week, and don't shampoo every time you shower.  Ironically, scissors are your friend trim the ends to prevent split ends that will break the hair.

Skin Deep solution: Nioxin Leave-in Scalp spray (#3) or the Foam (#6) further energizes the scalp for faster hair growth.

Dear Susan: What’s the best way to shape my somewhat unruly eyebrows?

Step 1: Tweeze below your natural brow by plucking out hairs, moving against the grain. Step 2: Tweeze above your brow to remove any thick, stray hairs above your arch. Don't forget brush them straight up and trim any hairs that are longer then the other ones. Best to pluck brows after a shower when your skin is warm.

If you have any holes on your brownie, you can fill in with eyebrow pencil. To find where your eyebrow should end, measure a straight line again from the corner of your nose, through the outer corner of your eye. Or again, if yore trying to add width go a little wider before marking your final point into the brow. That's point C, and where your eyebrow should ideally end.

Skin Deep solution:  We have great eyebrow pencils with brushes on the opposite end for easy blending.

The Art of Demonstrating Interest

If you’ve perused any forums on college admissions (looking at you, Mom and Dad!) then you’ve already come across the term “Demonstrated Interest.”  It sounds like some sort of corporate terminology, doesn’t it?  That’s because that’s exactly what it is.  I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: colleges are businesses.  ...
