2020 5K Heart and Sole Dog Run/Walk

The FOSRAS 10th anniversary - 2020 5K Heart and Sole Dog Run/Walk is happening on Sunday, October 18, 2020. Last year we had over 400 participants and 150 dogs. Our event raised approximately $25,000 to help the shelter find 1,023 cats and dogs their forever homes. In addiiton, we were able to provide live saving medical treatment that would not have been possible without this event and the generosity of our sponsors and donors. Our event is family and dog friendly. Dogs can join the race starting at 9:30AM.and children 10 and under participate for free with a registered adult. It is going to be a great time, don't miss out.

Dress your dog! Halloween isn't just for kids anymore. There will be a Doggy Halloween Costume Contest, pet related vendors, and visit our doggy kissing booth. Each dog will also receive their very own doggy bag for partcipating in the 5K with lots of cool stuff.

Many fun things to do! 100% of all event proceeds benefit the animals at the Somerset Regional Animal Shelter (SRAS). Monies predominantly go toward the Cupid Fund, a fund reserved for animals in need of more complex medical treatment than what an average shelter can typically provide. FOSRAS and SRAS work as a team to organize on-site and off-site adoption, fundraising events, volunteers, learning opportunities and more. For more information on us or to register, please visit The Friends of Somerset Regional Animal Shelter website at www.fosras.com. Hope to see you there..

Quitting Can Be Winning

July 30, 2021

I will begin by quoting a recent Instagram message by Justin Bieber.

“Nobody will ever understand the pressures you face! I know we don’t know each other but I’m so proud of the decision to withdraw.  It’s as simple as – what does it mean to gain the whole world but forfeit your soul. Sometimes our no’s are more powerful than our yes’s.  ...

Watchung Planning Board’s Approval of Daycare Center

To The Editor:

The Watchung planning board’s approval in July of an application to build a daycare center on the very edge of the borough’s border with Scotch Plains—and far from where it will have any negative effects on Watchung residents—strains belief.  It doesn’t belong there and there are plenty of alternatives.

I live around the corner from the ...
