NJ Audubon: Freezing the Moment: An Exhibition of Shannon Merolla’s photographs at the Wayrick Wildlife Art Gallery

Growing up in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains in Elkin, North Carolina, wildlife photographer Shannon Merolla nurtured a love of the outdoors and nature from a very young age. What started out a few years ago as backyard birding has grown into a daily routine of locating unique wildlife and getting ‘The shot’. Shannon spends her days exploring wildlife refuges, sanctuaries, or anywhere birds and other wildlife are to be found.   Her camera captures the moment when both she and wildlife discover each other.

Shannon, who can recall the location and time of nearly every photo she has taken, says: “It’s the thrill of quietly walking in nature and discovering a bird in its natural habitat, and freezing that moment forever in time.” Shannon, a Long Valley resident, adds: “It’s not just about capturing the beauty of these amazing animals, but also raising public awareness of how precious our wildlife truly is -- they need our protection and respect.”

Shannon’s thrilling photographs will be exhibited at the Wayrick Wildlife Art Gallery (at the Scherman Hoffman Wildlife Sanctuary in Bernardsville) between August 30 and November 25, 2019.  You can find more of her work on Instagram @shannonbirder.

Where Do We Start the Larger Conversation About Guns?

Let's talk about our rights and our freedoms.

How many were free to shop at a Wal-Mart last two Sundays ago without fear that El Paso copycat would announce himself with the staccato fire of an AR-15?

You saw the stampede in the theater district in New York City when a motorcycle backfired. And the evacuation of a Wal-Mart in Union because of a false report.

We may have freedoms, but ...
