Robert was born in Irvington, NJ to the late Ethel and Percival McManus. He had resided in Berkeley Heights, NJ for 39 years before moving to Manahawkin 7 years ago.

He was an avid saltwater fisherman and loved spending time fishing on his boat with his kids and all of his grandchildren. All of his free time was spent with the grandchildren, taking them places, swimming with them in the lagoon or out in the bay at the sandbar. He loved taking the grand-kids out for ice cream runs, lunch and or dinner. All the grand-kids loved hanging with grandpa whether it be for the day or the entire summer break.

Robert was the owner & operator of Door Boy in Berkeley Heights for 40 years before retiring in 2012 and turning it over to his children to continue the tradition. He was an active member of the Suburban Chamber of Commerce and the Berkeley Heights Rotary Club. Robert was president of Rotary from 1992-1993 and 2010-2011 and was chairman of Berkeley Heights Chamber of Commerce.

Robert received the Good Scout Award in September of 2010. He also was a recipient of the Rotary Paul Harris Award.

Robert was involved in “all” of Berkeley Heights goings on and events for many years. He was a fixture in Berkeley Heights sports, football, basketball, baseball having four children in Berkeley Heights. If he wasn’t coaching he was working on fields, erecting temporary lights on the fields so the kids could practice at night before Berkeley Heights had lights or carting teams around to practices or games.
