BERKELEY HEIGHTS, NJ - The Battle of the Bulbs nominations were coming in fast and furious this week -- and even caused an overload glitch due to high number of nominations coming through!

Last year the standards were raised when the Camptown Drive display included 8,000 lights and over 100 hours of work. As you drive through Berkeley Heights neighborhoods, you'll notice the community has taken holiday decorating to an even higher level.

Get in your car, turn the holiday tunes up, and take a tour of the nominated homes. It is certain to brighten your night and bring out the inner Clark Griswold in all of you!!

Battle of the Bulbs past winners, although not eligible, have once again created the "WOW" factor in their decorating displays. George and Mayor Angie Devanney, on Cornell Avenue, were winners of the inaugural contest; Chris Tribuna of Balloon Design Studio of Berkeley Heights, was the winner of the 2nd year. And last year's winner may have even added to their 8,000 lit bulbs on Camptown Drive. Each year’s winners are asked to join the panel of judges.

This year, downtown also shines brighter with new market lights that line the sidewalks between the light posts thanks to the Berkeley Heights Downtown Beautification Committee and Winter Walk Committee, Ippolito Memorial, Autumn Lake Healthcare -- and a generous donation by JCP&L. You will also notice that more businesses have joined the "Bright Nights" theme to decorate their storefronts with white lights, big red ribbons and holiday greens that helps to transform the downtown business district into a festive holiday scene.

The holiday lights competition is open to all residents of Berkeley Heights -- and new this year, there's a Best in Business Category. Homeowners may nominate themselves. Nominations are collected online by TAPinto Berkeley Heights, or by dropping off your vote in the ballot box located at Taylor Rental Center, Anything Floral or Smith Chiropractic.

The top five homes nominated will then be judged by a select panel of judges, with the winner of residents to receive $150 gift certificate to Delicious Heights and a special plaque to be mounted on their front yard. Second prize is $100 gift certificate to Goodman's Deli and third place is a $50 gift certificate to Grain and Cane. The Best in Business will receive a sign to be mounted in their storefront as well as bragging rights as Battle of the Bulbs Best in Business winner!

The Battle of the Bulbs contest is sponsored by the following Berkeley Heights Business and Civic Community members: Smith Chiropractic, Taylor Rental Center, TAPinto Berkeley Heights, Liss Printing, Cruise Planner - Nish Verma, The Liberty Group, GRA Architecture, Anything Floral, Fit Forever, Delicious Heights, JAG One Physical Therapy, and Investors Bank.

Again, the deadline for nominations is Dec. 16, 2020.

Be creative! Homes will be judged on the WOW Factor, originality, creative use and number of lights, use of space, and holiday theme.
