BERNARDSVILLE, NJ - Summit Prep celebrated the opening of their second location on Friday with a ribbon cutting and open house in Bernardsville.

Summit Prep owners David Blobaum and Eva Addae, Geri Yurkon (Summit Prep Director of Operations) and Crystal Zamot (Summit Prep Account Manager) were joined by William Fischer, President of the Bernardsville Chamber, and Chamber board members Joe Rossi and Karen Lajterman to cut the ceremonial ribbon.

In addition, Congressman Tom Malinowski and District 25 Assembly candidate Aura Dunn (R) joined Mayor Mary Jane Canose for the festivities. Several students came by after school to check out the new downtown tutoring facility -- and grab a slice a pizza and cupcake.

Summit Prep is a premier tutoring company that specializes on prep for standardized tests, particularly the SAT, ACT, private high school entrance exams, and the LSAT, GRE, and GMAT.  It also offers academic tutoring and college counseling to fully empower a student to succeed.

Friends and classmates at the University of Chicago, Addae and Blobaum founded Summit Prep in Summit, NJ in 2013 because they saw firsthand that standardized test prep companies were not providing a sufficiently high quality of education to their students or producing consistently good score results.  They saw the opportunity and need to provide a much higher quality of prep and to empower their students to succeed in life.

Blobaum told TAPinto they chose Bernardsville  to open their second location due to it's proximity to their student base from nearby Pingry, Delbarton and Morristown Beard.  "We have a good business in Summit, [NJ]," said Blobaum. "We tutor 50 percent of Pingry's junior class every year -- so we have a good concentration within the private schools, so we are centrally located."  In addition, "We love the town -- what a good feel, it's walkable, we love it," Blobaum added.

Joe Rossi, a longtime real estate owner and landlord, agrees. "It is the most incredible town to grow up in, live in," he said. -- As for storefront vacancies, "we are having a little problem right now renting our spaces -- we are hoping more people move to town and we will fill these stores -- that's what it's all about," said Rossi.

TAPinto: What is unique about Summit Prep?

David: Summit Prep is more specialized than any other local prep company.  Although it has tutors that can teach almost any academic topic, its focus is standardized tests.  To that end, it is highly selective (hires only 1% of applicants) and is likely the only local tutoring company that hires full-time tutors with competitive salaries and full-benefits to attract and retain literally the best standardized test prep teachers.  It has created an extensive curriculum through an analysis of over 20 years of SATs and ACTs so that its teachers can target student weaknesses with incredible accuracy.  Each tutor also goes through a minimum of 160 hours of training on the SAT and ACT before meeting with a student.  If you want the best SAT and ACT prep, you have to go with Summit Prep.

TAPinto: What is most important for people to know about your business?

David: Summit Prep does not just teach its students what it knows but does so in the way in which a child learns best. Every person is different and learns differently; Summit Prep takes the time to figure out how each student learns best so that it can teach each student best.

TAPinto: What sets you apart from your competition?

David: Summit Prep gets results!  Even if students were working with another company before — even for an entire year — our average increase on the SAT is still 210 points and 6 points on the ACT.

TAPinto: Anything else that you want to share about yourself or your business?

David: Prior to 2018, Summit Prep spent zero dollars on marketing and advertising. Yet, it still grew year after year at a rate of 50 percent or above.  How?  Because its families loved the experience and their results.  Summit Prep is so grateful to its amazing families for helping to spread the word about a better alternative for standardized test prep, particularly for the SAT and ACT, and we are excited to have a home base in Bernardsville to expand its help to more students.
