BERKELEY HEIGHTS, NJ - The BH Ed Foundation hosted its first Literary Lunch of the school year on December 12th. This program is an intergenerational book club that brings together middle school students with BH Public School staff, BH Board of Education administration, and senior citizen community members, to discuss a book over lunch in an informal setting. The book chosen for discussion was “Moon Over Manifest” by Clare Vanderpool.
The eighth grade students and all attendees participated in a lively and engaging discussion while enjoying sandwiches from SubZone in Berkeley Heights.
Frank Geiger, Columbia Middle School Principal, kicked off the luncheon by quoting a student who demonstrated what it means to truly love to read. The Ed Foundation would like to thank Stephen Hopkins, District Supervisor for Social Studies and World Language, for his support in help coordinating this program. We would also like to thank Dr. Varley, Superintendent of the BH Public Schools, Mrs. Cheryl Kurowski, CMS Library Media Specialist, and all of the teachers and staff who participated.
Literary Lunch would not be possible without generous donations to the BH Education Foundation from the Berkeley Heights community. The Ed Foundation supplies the books and the lunch for the program. If you are a Berkeley Heights resident and are interested in joining the book club for the remaining two sessions (seventh grade and sixth grade) this school year, please contact the BH Ed Foundation at email@example.com.
Founded in 1994, the BH Ed Foundation is a non-profit, volunteer fundraising organization that has helped raises funds to enhance educational excellence in the Berkeley Heights Public Schools by sponsoring programs that support innovative instruction, strengthen school-community ties, enrich students’ appreciation of the arts and humanities, and augment technology resources across all six schools in Berkeley Heights. We are a complementary organization to the individual school PTOs, working to enhance the educational experience for all of our children.
