BERKELEY HEIGHTS, NJ -- Doug Reinstein, president of the Berkeley Heights Board of Education, announced that Dr. Melissa Varley has been appointed as the new Superintendent of Schools for the Berkeley Heights School District, effective July 1, 2019.
Dr. Varley is currently serving as superintendent of schools for the Florham Park School District and she was previously employed as assistant superintendent for the Sparta Public Schools. Prior to these roles, she served as a curriculum director and as a high school principal. Dr. Varley earned both her bachelor's and master's degrees from Valdosta State University before receiving her Doctorate in Education Leadership from the University of Georgia.
"Dr. Varley is a dynamic educator who is well-versed and knowledgeable of current best practices and teaching methods, along with curriculum development," said Reinstein. "The Board of Education is confident that she has the leadership skills necessary to take our district to the next level."
On Friday, April 26, Dr. Varley and Reinstein will visit all six of the Berkeley Heights public schools so she can begin her introduction to the district.
A "Meet the Superintendent" program is planned for 6:30 p.m., Thursday, May 9, at Governor Livingston High School, in advance of the Board of Education meeting. At that time, parents and community members will have an opportunity to meet with Dr. Varley in an informal setting.
