September is National Library Card Month! To celebrate, the New Providence Memorial Library has lined up weeks of checkout events and giveaways for patrons of all ages. In addition, the library has a wide variety of events and programs for Children, Teens and Adults this month. All library programs are free to the public, but some require advanced registration via NP Community Pass. Be sure to stop by the library this month to update your library card account and enjoy all of the events and new materials available to the public!

Identify the unique characteristics of reptiles! Compare the similarities and differences between snakes and turtles. Find out how snakes hunt and eat their prey. Discover how turtles eat without teeth and why they bask in the sun. Touch turtle shells and a snakeskin shed, and feel a replica reptile egg. Interact with a live snake and turtle.  For all ages. Registration is not required. This program is made possible by the Friends of the New Providence Memorial Library.

 September 9 @ 7 PM - 9 PM - Baseball Discussion Group (All ages)

Anyone with an interest in baseball is welcome. Come discuss your favorite team and players, or just listen.

September 10 @ 3:30 PM- Snap Circuits Jr. Club (Kids)

Calling all budding scientists and engineers! Snap Circuits makes learning electronics easy and fun! Come and put together various circuit boards.  Registration is not required.

September 12 @ 5:00-6:00 PM - Teen Volunteer Meeting & Application Drop-Off (Teens)

It’s a new year, and a newly updated teen volunteer program! We will have three different meetings for teens because we recognize your busy schedules. You only need to come to one of the three meetings to drop off your application, meet with Mrs. Maisch and find out about orientation and training. We welcome teen volunteers in grades 7-12 for our school year volunteer program. All teens receive letters verifying service hours for the work they complete. Volunteers must come for ONE of the following dates: Thur 9/12 @ 5:00-6:00, Weds 9/18 @ 3:30-4:30, or Mon 9/23 @ 3:00-4:00.

 September 12 @ 7 pm - Story Time with Daisy (All Ages)

Daisy, a Guide Dog in-training will be in the library for a special story time.  Join us for a story or two and meet Daisy! All ages welcome. Registration is not required.

September 15 @ 3 PM - 4:30 PM - "The Beatles: the Beginning" (Adults)

Paul Groom, a native of Liverpool, will describe the Beatles' rise from obscurity to international stardom in a multimedia presentation that includes Beatles audio. Groom attended the same high school as Paul McCartney and George Harrison, and the same youth club and Sunday school as John Lennon. Free, everyone is welcome. This program is made possible by the Friends of the New Providence Memorial Library.

September 16 @ 3:30 PM- Kids Movie: Secret Life of Pets 2 (Kids)

Max the terrier deals with major life changes when his owner gets married and has a baby. This film is rated PG. Children 10 and under must be accompanied by an adult.

September 16 @ 7 PM - 8:30 PM - Knitting & Crocheting (Adults)

Drop by the Coddington room with a knitting, crocheting or other fiber art project to work on.

Take your Excel skills to the next level with this free 2 hour course from the Adult School. Expand your knowledge of functions, learn how to manage data, and present information using charts and graphs. Exercises will include conditional formatting, autofill, linking data between worksheets, and functions including Vlookup, Concatenate, and If.  September 20 @ 2:50 PM - Teen Movie: Super 8 (Teens)

Let’s hop on board the “Storm Area 51” craze and get together for an out-of-this-world teen movie! In 1979 Ohio, several youngsters (Elle Fanning, Joel Courtney, Gabriel Basso) are making a zombie movie with a Super-8 camera. In the midst of filming, the friends witness a horrifying train derailment and are lucky to escape with their lives. They soon discover that the catastrophe was no accident, as a series of unexplained events and disappearances soon follows. Rated PG-13

A lecture and book signing by Linnda Durré, Ph.D., author of Surviving the Toxic Workplace: Protect Yourself Against the Co-Workers, Bosses, and Work Environments That Poison Your Day (McGraw-Hill).  Dr. Durré is a business consultant and an expert witness for court cases. The Florian Schantz Jazz Combo will perform a free Oktoberfest-themed concert complete with polkas and waltzes. This is the first concert in the 2019-2020 concert series sponsored by the Friends of the New Providence Memorial Library. This arts program is made possible in part by a 2019 HEART (History, Education, Arts Reaching Thousands) Grant from the 
Union County Board of Chosen 
Freeholders.
