I am currently the president of the Berkeley Heights PTO, a Trustee for the Berkeley Heights Education Foundation (BHEF) and a Realtor in the community. I started my volunteer career at Mary Kay McMillin (MKM) Early Childhood Center as a Special Education Liaison for the PTO in 2007 when my younger son Michael entered the pre-Kindergarten program. I worked with the district, teachers and child study team to implement the inaugural Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) program to MKM. The program continues to serve many ‘special needs’ children in the community. I have continued my involvement as an active member of the district’s Special Education Parent Advisory Committee and as a Special Education Liaison for the PTO.
Since 2007, I have served as a volunteer member and co-chair on numerous Parent Teacher committees. This includes serving on every school PTO Executive Board from MKM Early Childhood Center through Governor Livingston High School, as President or Vice President.
In addition, I have co-chaired on the Berkeley Heights Education Foundation (BHEF) and served as a trustee from 2015 to present. I also volunteered as a Communication Liaison for the Berkeley Heights Youth Soccer Club (BHYSC) from 2012 to 2015 and was an active member of the Girl Scouts Troop # 40922 & 40596 from 2010 to 2013 with my daughter Jacqueline.
At present, I am serving my third year as the BH PTO President and have introduced and implemented many new ideas for the PTO. Notable accomplishments for everyone involved with the schools include communication improvements to the parent correspondence by using GroupVine email service and leveraging the use of Facebook to keep the community informed. I have led or been part of countless fund-raising initiatives and local government partnerships in the community that have provided many benefits to the students ranging from cooler classrooms through new air conditioning to projects to improve the sidewalks used for children who walk to school.
I earned a Bachelor’s degree in Quantity Surveying & Construction Management from Durban Institute of Technology in South Africa and worked as a Construction Project Manager in South Africa for many years before returning to the United Kingdom where I met my husband Ian. We moved to the United States in 1998 and ultimately settled with my 3 children Robert, Jacqueline and Michael in Berkeley Heights. I currently work as a realtor in the community and I am looking to continue my long history of volunteerism through service to the district’s Board of Education.
