When we started this campaign 8 months ago, Manny and I knew what that motto meant to us. It meant putting our residents and their best interests first and above all politics. To us it is only about people and what’s best for this town.
For the past 8 months I have campaigned and knocked on thousands of doors and spoken with thousands of residents. I have walked the walk. I haven’t flushed your mailboxes with shiny mailers. I haven't relied on coat tails and outside money to control my message. My message has been real. I will represent every single one of our residents and I will work harder than I campaigned if elected.
I made a commitment and to carry that out meant time and dedication to the community. I have heard your concerns and ideas. I have listened to your life experiences and I have shared my experience with you. And to those of you who I haven’t had the pleasure of meeting yet, I wanted to share a little bit of my history.
I am an immigrant from the small, but great country of Albania who moved to the United States in 1993 and built a life in this country out of nothing. During my first year here, I moved 6 times and worked 13 different jobs in order to survive. I found myself in a new country where I didn’t speak the language, I had no relatives close by, no one to turn to and no choice but to wake up every morning and go to work in order to make ends meet. I have a deep appreciation of what it means to not be able to afford to live in your house because you can’t afford to pay the taxes, even if you don’t have a mortgage. This is a struggle for many and especially our seniors. This is why a lot of us work so hard to protect the value of our most important asset which is our homes. And I am here to tell you that I will do everything to make sure that you my friends and neighbors do not have to go through what I did as a young adult. I will question every line item on the budget. I will fight for you, the taxpayers and the residents of Berkeley Heights. This is Berkeley Heights First! I do not have any higher political ambitions. My goal is to serve the people of Berkeley Heights. This is my way of giving back to what this Country and Town have given me. I am passionate about helping people and my loyalty will always remain with the people of Berkeley Heights.
This election is very important for Berkeley Heights. It is critical that we have a Council who represents the diverse skills and experience to manage and protect our town. It is crucial that we maintain a balanced Council so we can question every decision made by our council members and make sure there is no perceived conflicts of interest.
Manny Couto and myself will be able to do just that, and represent all the residents of Berkeley Heights. I humbly ask for your support by voting for Manuel Couto and Gentiana Brahimaj this Tuesday, November 5th, COLUMN B.
