CHATHAM, NJ - Louiza Poulimenos hears the front door open at "Angie's" and glances over to see who it is. Noticing regulars, she immediately calls over the order to her husband, Jimmy, before the customers settle into a booth.

It's the welcoming kind of service Louiza and Jimmy Poulimenos have been providing for Chatham customers at their restaurant on Main Street for the past 26 years. But it will end on July 31 when the two retire.

According to Louiza, the sale is pending to a Chatham couple, Jimmy and Karen Bellas, "good people who know the business."

In the meantime, Louiza is hoping that her customers will stop in and say goodbye before the July departure.

"I would probably remember their order if they're old customers," Louiza said. "The people have become my friends and family. I've met babies and now the babies are having babies and I'm meeting them. That's how long we've been here. I love this place. I love the town, I love the people. I'm not old, but I need to enjoy my life."

Louiza, 62, and Jimmy, 72, are originally from Kalamata, Greece, and have settled in Union, where they intend to stay.

"My 90-year-old mother lives with me and she's my first priority," Louiza said. "We'll see how it goes day to day. My main goal is to stay healthy."

The restaurant at 252 Main Street was named Angie's when the Poulimenos's bought it in 1992.

"It was meant to be," Louiza said of the name. "Jimmy's sister was named Angie and she passed away when she was 22 and my oldest daughter is Angela."

Angie's also serves lunch, but is known for its breakfast. Louiza takes care of the orders and the service behind the counter and Jimmy cooks.

"We're known for our breakfast, it's the best thing," she said. "People like to come and watch Jimmy working. He's meticulous. His plate talks to you. He's very fussy. It has to be his way or no way at all. People come to watch us fight. We fight, but it's a joke. We've been married for 42 years."
