BERKELEY HEIGHTS, NJ - Adrienne Weissman and Kelly Argo, both of Berkeley Heights Cub Scout 268, received awards at the Watchung Mountain District Annual Meeting and Volunteer Recognition Dinner at Shackamaxon Country Club.
Cub Master, Cathy Larson, also of Berkeley Heights, was also in attendance.
Weissman, the Pack Committee Chair, received the Watchung Mountaineer Award for consistently striving to deliver an outstanding Scouting program and showing true "Scouting Spirit" in all activities. As Committee Chair, she is heavily involved with all aspects of the pack, from helping to plan pack and den meetings to ensuring the pack members are in good standing with district and national offices. She is the first person we turn to with our scouting needs/questions. Weissman embodies the scouting spirit.
Argo, the Lion Den Leader, started her kindergarten den over the summer when her daughter expressed an interest in scouting. “I am grateful that scouting has become a family experience. It’s wonderful that girls are now allowed to to be cub scouts," said Argo. "It’s special to see my sons and daughter side-by-side in uniform, participating in the exact same program together.” Having zero experience and going against a steep learning curve, she quickly gained 10 scouts in the den and put together an amazing hands on scouting experience. With three of her children in scouting (a Lion, a Tiger and a Bear! she has immersed herself fully in the scouting experience and is eager to continue onward in youth leadership.
Pack 268 also received the Top Trained Unit Award for having the highest percentage of trained leaders in a Cub Scout Pack. "This was made possible through the dedication of our parent volunteers who spent countless hours learning and implementing the teachings of scout life."
