NEW PROVIDENCE, NJ - Congress recently approved the LEGION (Let Everyone Get Involved in Opportunities for National Service) Act (S.504).
This action will finally put to rest the issue of those veterans who served during peacetime (“the gaps”) to be recognized as acceptable candidates for membership in the American Legion. For decades, many veterans were denied the opportunity to join (and the benefits of membership) simply because no declared war existed during their service time.
The President is expected to sign this later this week.
Congratulations to the thousands who openly supported this Bill for their concentrated efforts to have their representatives act appropriately.
When the finalized Bill has been published more information and specifics will follow.
