BERKELEY HEIGHTS, NJ – Township residents are invited to attend the annual Township Council Reorganization meeting which will be held at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 2, at Town Hall, 29 Park Ave., in the council chambers.
During the meeting, Manny Couto will be sworn in for his second three-year term for Township Council, and Gentiana Brahimaj will be sworn in as a member of the Township Council.
The agenda for that meeting has been posted.
A check of the agenda indicates the first order of business in the reorganization meeting will be to accept nominations for Council President and Vice President and for council members to vote on the options.
After those votes are taken, the council will proceed to the “Resolutions for 2020 Reorganization.” There are 45 items that need to be approved individually by the council.
The council will need to approve the appointment of various professionals who serve Berkeley Heights, including: the township attorney; public agency compliance officer; fund commissioner; municipal prosecutor; public defender; chief of the Berkeley Heights Volunteer Fire Department; head of the DPW; township auditor; bond counsel; redevelopment counsel; tax attorney; affordable housing attorney; labor attorney; insurance broker; township planner; the firm to provide engineering services related to waste water treatment; a firm to provide real estate appraisal and consulting services and more.
The consent agenda includes 12 items, including setting the meeting schedule for the year; naming the legal newspapers for the township; and items having to do with banking, including designating depositories of township funds for the year, the tax sale, establishing petty cash funds and more.
