BERKELEY HEIGHTS, NJ - The National Weather Service has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Watch for this area until 11 p.m. tonight.
Showers and thunderstorms are expected in the area after 4 p.m. Some of the storms could be severe. Expect winds to be about 14 mph, with gusts as high as 24 mph before 10 p.m. The temperature is predicted to drop to about 60 degrees tonight.
In addition, the National Weather Service has issued a Flash Watch for all of New Jersey.
A line of intense thunderstorms is expected to move into the region from the northwest late Tuesday afternoon and evening, according to the National Weather Service. There are indications that storms may repeatedly move over the same areas, especially during the evening hours, they said. Localized rainfall of one to three inches is likely where this occurs, and combined with the rainfall received this past weekend, this may lead to instances of flash flooding.
A Flash Flood Watch means that there is the potential for flash flooding which can be life-threatening. Heavy rain is expected to occur over a short period of time. Rapidly rising flood waters may quickly inundate roadways and areas of poor drainage. Streams and creeks could leave their banks, flooding nearby properties. Monitor the forecast, especially if you live in a location that is prone to flooding.
