NEW PROVIDENCE, NJ - In today’s hyperconnected and always-on culture, it is not surprising we have seen an increase in anxiety levels in young children and teenagers. Social media overstimulation, world events, family issues, difficulties with peers, and troubling worries overall can all serve as catalysts for heightened anxiety and its effects are felt throughout the entire household. In fact, the National Institute of Mental Health reports that nearly 1 in 3 of all adolescents ages 13 to 18 will experience an anxiety disorder, a trend that was consistent across age groups. 

Headaches, stomachaches, digestive issues, and exhaustion can all be manifestations of anxiety and stress. Behavioral issues such as anger, impulsivity, and refusing school are common defense mechanisms children demonstrate in reaction to anxiety inducing situations. As anxiety becomes more deeply rooted in our daily way of life, it can have unhealthy impacts on the entire family.

We have implemented a multi-faceted approach with tailored classes to individual age groups that promote confidence building, stress and anxiety management techniques. Together we work to facilitate resiliency and coping skills, while building a sense of community and connectedness. In addition to traditional yoga classes, some examples of our tailored offerings include:

  • Child specific yoga and mindfulness classes help teach children to identify emotions and how to activate visualization and breathing to bring calm and peace to their thoughts and feelings. 
  • Our “Shine Om” series for tween girls (ages 9-12) on Friday nights, and “Strong Like a Girl” Mother/Daughter classes encourage confidence and an empowered mindset for all.
  • We make family time easy with our family-focused yoga classes. These classes offer the unique opportunity to grow and learn together while having fun in a safe and comfortable environment.
  • Adults also benefit from our tailored classes and events. With offerings ranging from restorative and meditation classes to singing bowls sound therapy, crystal workshops, and more, we encourage adults to take time to help heal and energize their minds and bodies.
