BERKELEY HEIGHTS, NJ - This is an uncertain time for us all. If you, or someone in your family, begins to experience symptoms that may be associated with COVID-19, it can be difficult to know what resources to call upon. As always, the BHVRS is here to partner with you.
Please follow these guidelines before calling 911 or seeking medical advice:
- Call your physician if you develop symptoms. Let them know that you are concerned you might have COVID-19. In many cases, you will be instructed to manage your symptoms at home the same way you would deal with other cold and flu symptoms.
- Do NOT call 911 if you are seeking general medical advice about COVID-19 or wish to be tested for COVID-19. An ambulance ride to the hospital does not guarantee any type of preferential treatment during this pandemic. You will not be seen quicker in the emergency room or tested for COVID-19 faster if you arrive by ambulance.
- Please contact 911 immediately for true emergencies requiring life-saving care such as severe breathing difficulty.
When patients are transported that do not require life-saving care, it puts our first responders at-risk. It also takes an ambulance out of service that could be used for other medical emergencies such as heart attacks, strokes, allergic reactions, and traumatic falls.
We appreciate you partnering with us to provide the best possible care for our community and helping to protect all of our town's first responders!
