BERKELEY HEIGHTS, NJ - The new 40,000 square foot YMCA facility on Locust Avenue in Berkeley Heights is set to open to the public on Thursday, February 6.

The YMCA invested more than $14 million in the community to allow for additional opportunities to serve more children, teens, adults, families and seniors and expand its collaborative efforts with local organizations and partners. This investment "cements [the YMCA] as a true community leader for youth development, healthy living and social responsibility for years to come," said Kieltyka. This is the first new YMCA branch built in NJ in over 10 years.

Lisa McQuilkin, Wellness Director, said, "Our [program] schedule is very full. -- We are increasing the formats that we’re offering -- CXWorx which is a core class, NIA -- a mind body focused dance class [to name a few]." Members can look forward to expanded adult sport offerings; a dedicated functional training space to host the new MX4 small group fitness experience, along with a special offer to all Summit Area YMCA members to try their first two MX4 sessions for free.  [McQuilkin is also excited to begin the next LIVESTRONG session, a free twelve-week, small group exercise and recovery program designed for adult cancer survivors, that will begin at the end of February. The ground level of the new facility features a full size basketball court that can break into two half size basketball courts, one volleyball court and it is lined for three pickleball courts.  "We will have a full schedule of our programs and will work on some leagues to compliment the programs in Summit," said Berkeley Heights YMCA Executive Director Tiffany Escott. "We can't wait for the people to get in here to see what we have."

The multi-purpose room divides into two sections and will offer programming for parent-child classes all the way to senior classes. The other half of the room will be available for the after school programs that will include enrichment classes, as well as teen social hour.

The new Childcare Center has a secure entrance similar to the public school district. In addition to childcare and pre-school programs, the YMCA offers a kindergarten wrap program that compliments the curriculum of the Berkeley Heights and New Providence public schools. The after school programs for first through sixth grade offer enrichment and STEAM programming.

The Y invites the public to visit during their Open House Week February 23-29 and have extended their new member promotion to the end of February with zero joining fees, a $95 savings.  Save the date for the Grand Opening and Ribbon Cutting Celebration for February 29 at 10 a.m.

"We want people to come in and be wowed -- this is really special," said Kieltyka. Escott said, "At the end of the day, we want to serve everybody in the community."
