UNION, NJ – Police are investigating a fatal pedestrian-involved crash that occurred just after 10 a.m. Friday in the Costco parking lot.

Repair work was being conducted on the curb line in Costco’s parking lot and while one of the workers was maneuvering a 2007 GMC pickup, he inadvertently reversed the vehicle, striking a coworker, police said. The driver lost control of the truck and ultimately ran over his coworker before stopping the vehicle, according to police.

The injured man was taken to Overlook Medical Center in Summit where he was pronounced dead, police said. His name has not yet been released.

Officer Michael Cocca of the Union police is investigating the crash.

People who may have witnessed the incident or its immediate aftermath are asked to call the Union Police Department’s Traffic Bureau at 908-851-5070.
