BERKELEY HEIGHTS, NJ - The Berkeley Heights Fire Department responded to two homes on Pinewood Crescent struck by lightning Wednesday evening during the storm that came through the area. The houses both suffered electrical damage.
The New Jersey Water Company water tower that stands behind Killarney Drive was also struck by lighting resulting in a blown circuit breaker and tossed large rocks that traveled several hundred feet and went through the garage roof of a Killarney Drive home, said BHFD Deputy Chief Jim Hopkins.
The BHFD also responded to Runnels Center for Rehabilitation and Healthcare of reports of being struck by lightning.
On this very busy evening, the BHFD also responded to a Ridge Drive home with Carbon Monoxide in the home caused by a generator in use due to power failure in the area.
