The New Providence Reds continued their strong start to the 2020 campaign last Sunday by sweeping a doubleheader from the Hunterdon Expos, winning game 1 by a score of 5-1 and coming from behind in walk-off fashion to win game 2, 6-5.

The Reds, who improved to 3-1 on the season with the sweep, got strong pitching in game 1. Zack Zareva started and tossed six solid innings allowing one run, scattering six hits, while striking out six, to pick up his first win of the season. Chris Lowe pitched a 1-2-3, seventh with two strikeouts to finish the game.

Offensively, leadoff man Tyler DeGeorge paced the way for the Reds. DeGeorge continued his hot start to the season adding two doubles, two runs scored and a walk. Joe Randazzo, Harry Cohen and Lowe also added two hits each. Eric Martin, Matt Nesto, Nick Sommo and Lowe drove in runs for the Reds.

In game two, while trailing 5-2 going into the final inning, the Reds erupted for four runs with nobody out to come away with a 6-5 walk-off win.

With the bases loaded, DeGeorge walked to make the game 5-3, Cohen then followed and stroked a double to right field to score two runs and tie the game at 5-5.  Randazzo would then hit a hard ground ball to the shortstop whose only play was at second base, allowing the winning run to score and secure a big day in the win column for the Reds.

DeGeorge added two more hits and a run in game two - including his third double of the afternoon.  Randazzo would also add two hits and an RBI in game two, while F.X. Brown picked up the other RBI for the Reds.

On the hill, Cohen started and went 4 1/3 innings, striking out four, while allowing a run and four hits. Chris Lowe pitched the final 1 2/3 innings to pick up his first win of the season and as a Red.
