MADISON, NJ - Berkeley Heights Rovers (U9 soccer team), took home the 10th Annual Drew University Indoor Soccer Tournament on Sunday February 4th. A nearly full roster of 14 (out of 15) of the town's top talent braved the short early morning journey to participate in the university hosted 7v7 event.
The boys ran out victorious in their first three games against Mount Olive, Pequannock and Hanover. Setting up a final game showdown with Morris Elite and the game didn’t disappoint.
After a couple of early scares, Rovers began to settle into their passing game, trusting each other and slowly began to create a number of very good opportunities. "However, they struggled to convert those chances until the latter part of the game when Aayan Maharjan was on hand to convert after JP's effort hit the post," said Coach Mark Robertson. The celebrations were quickly muted as Morris Elite equalized straight from the restart with a strike from distance. After a frantic finish and number of spurned chances, the game ended 1-1 and the title of champions was shared.
