With an amazing start to the season, the Berkeley Heights Rovers U10 soccer team clinched the title at the STA Fall Kick Off Tournament with a 3-0 win over Fort Lee Soccer Premier. The boys won both games on Saturday, against Fort Lee and Morris United, and returned Sunday morning to win their third match against Morris Elite. They entered the final game undefeated and took home the championship trophy.

In the afternoon final, the second time against Fort Lee, the boys came out steady and patient, playing a hard-fought first half that closed at 1-0 with a free kick from Liam Cottam.

The second half started out with renewed energy from Fort Lee but the Rovers pressed hard to get the game back in their control. With Cottam slotting a second free kick into the corner from just outside the box and David Chang getting the third goal from a terrific run of play, the boys defended the final minutes until the whistle. Solid goal-keeping halves from Derek Zanko and Luke Delle Donna ensured a shut-out performance.

Coach Mark Robertson said, “The boys really put into action what we’ve been practicing. I’m proud of their brilliant performance on the pitch this weekend.” Next up for the Rovers is The Piscataway SC 38th Fall Classic on September 8th and 9th, followed by their regular season schedule.
