CHATHAM, NJ - Chatham quarterback Giovanni Del Re scored on a sneak and also threw a scoring pass to T.J. Coffey as the Cougar 8th Grade football team shut out Kenilworth, 16-0, in the Suburban Youth Football League playoffs Sunday at Cougar Field.

Del Re connected with Quinn Allison, whose catch put the ball at the Kenilworth 1-yard line. Del Re followed with a quarterback sneak for the touchdown and Brendan Boyd kicked the first of his two extra points for Chatham.

An interception by Flynn Decker set up the second Chatham touchdown, a long pass from Del Re to Coffey.

Owen Williams contributed to the shutout effort by picked off a pass for Chatham, which also received strong performances from Charlie Colvin, Chris Gomez, Peter Boyd and Matthew Fairbairn.

The Chatham 8th Grade team will play the winner of the matchup between Scotch Plains-Fanwood and Somerville-Branchburg United in the next round.

In the Chatham 5th Grade game, visiting Somerset Hills pulled out a 9-0 win in a game that was scoreless at halftime. Caden Gabrielle, Hunter Bigham and Shep Boyd highlighted the Chatham effort. 

Berkeley Heights outlasted the Chatham 6th Grade team, 14-7, with Andrew Chobor scoring both touchdowns for the visitors with a TD catch and the return of a fumble for a score.

Justin Cook had a touchdown run for Chatham, which received strong games from Matt Moran, Will Allen, Quinn Riso and Andy Covello.
