BERKELEY HEIGHTS, NJ - Gov. Livingston senior Catherine Lawrence was prepared for her second season on the varsity softball team. "Catherine was proving that she would easily move into the role of either our second or third baseman," said Gov. Livingston head softball coach Erin Lanigan.
What was clear to Lanigan was that Lawrence put the time in the off season and "she had been working towards earning that starting position," she said.
Lawrence's favorite high school highlight was her freshman year making the county finals. "Coach Ortega pulled me up, and I was a freshman/JV swinger for half the season," said Lawrence. "We were super excited for the county game. Although the outcome wasn't what we expected, we worked hard to get there."
To Lawrence, wearing a GL uniform means putting in hard work and putting the team first. "Being a GL athlete has taught me that confidence wins games and that the only way to succeed is by working as one unit. Wearing the GL uniform gives me so much pride because I am so grateful to be part of the highlander community," said Lawrence.
TAPinto: What is your favorite youth highlight?
Catherine: My favorite highlight from my younger years as a softball player was playing for my middle school team at Deerfield. I played all three years in middle school under Coach Eckert and had so much fun every season. I played all over the field and I looked forward to practicing every day.
TAPinto: How are you doing during this period of COVID-19 isolation?
Catherine: At first, quarantine was pretty difficult to adjust to. I was still in shock about the whole situation and didn't even realize the severity of the pandemic. I'm used to always being busy and on the go and then everything just stopped. I miss my friends and my teammates but I know that everything that is happening happened for a reason.
TAPinto: What will be the first thing you do once restrictions are lifted?
Catherine: Once restrictions are lifted the first thing I plan to do is go see my friends. Although we have been zooming and Facetiming it's not the same as being with them in person. I used to be with my friends every day so once restrictions are lifted that's where I'll be.
