LITTLE FALLS, NJ -- Catherine Riordan, Esq., of Riordan & Associates, a boutique divorce and family law firm, spoke with TAPintoTV’s Executive Producer, Brian Brodeur, about her career and how she is able to help her clients through difficult and challenging life situations.

Riordan and Brodeur spoke via video conference from East Main Media’s studio in Little Falls, NJ, which has been reconfigured to accommodate remote interviews due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Riordan handles a wide range of family law litigation and mediation regarding divorce and matrimonial issues, such as custody, spousal support, child support and parenting time. “There can be a couple that have a child together and their relationship falls apart, but we still have to address the needs of a child,” Riordan said.

Riordan explained the benefits of reaching a settlement between parties rather than allowing a case to proceed to court to be decided upon by a judge. “I’m supposed to educate my client on how the law would likely be applied to their case,” Riordan said, “but if we reach a settlement we don’t have to necessarily follow the letter of the law,” she said. Riordan advises clients to “stay in the driver’s seat a little bit and see what we can figure out that’s best for you and your family, and still be fair.”

Despite divorce and family law cases often being difficult and painful, Riordan finds it to be rewarding. “I love that I get to really help people move on to the next chapter of their life and make it positive,” she said. “We find the positive parts of all of this and I get something out of it too--it feels good.”
