The summer of 2019 was filled with many music hits from many major artists. Artists such as Chance the Rapper, Young Thug, Khalid, and Lil Nas X filled the top charts with countless hits.

Khalid kicked off summer a little early, when in April he dropped an album titled Free Spirit which consisted of 17 songs that brought out the summer sun. Khalid’s top song “Talk” reached number 3 on the Billboard charts, as well as “Better” which peaked at number 8. Khalid’s flow and vocals gave a wonderful summer theme that had everyone dancing for months to come.

Lil Nas X introduced himself to the world with his smash hit “Old Town Road” in late 2018, and maintained his status at the top of the charts with his album, titled 7, which came out in late June. One of his hits on the album was “Panini,” which peaked at fourteen on Billboard’s Top 100, and stayed on the charts for twelve weeks.

After a couple years of absence from the music scene, Chance the Rapper dropped his album, named The Big Day on July 26. The album received mixed reviews. For instance, “They’re not polished or over produced, but highly developed, packed to the brim with quotable lyrics and features from artists whose blow-ups were impending,” according to Lucy Shanker from Consequence of Sound. Chance discussed his recent wedding and love for his wife, rather than bigger issues that Chance had rapped in past music. Despite the negative remarks, the album was mildly successful on the charts. “Hot Shower” peaked at fifty eight on the Billboard charts.

Young Thug dropped his most anticipated album So Much Fun on August 16. The veteran artist created beats and lyrics that embodied the title of the project. His new flow in “Surf (ft.Gunna)” gave a beach-like feeling to listeners, while his up-beat track “Boy Back (ft. Nav)” gave listeners a feeling of relaxation. His biggest song, “The London,” featured influential artists J. Cole and Travis Scott. The song peaked at twelve on the charts. “Bad Bad Bad” peaked at thirty two and “Hot” peaked at twenty six. The album was a complete success and made Young Thug a bigger name in the hip hop community.

Last but not least, the Quality Control label released its second album in the last four years, titled Control the Streets, Volume Two. Filled with big name hip hop artists such as Migos, Lil Baby, Lil Yachty, and DaBaby, Young Thug, and Meek Mill, listeners got a chance to hear big artists perform together on tracks such as “Double Trouble” and “100 Racks.” Some songs included new names like City Girls, Stefflon Don, Layton Greene, and Duke Deuce, shining the spotlight on some lesser known artists in the rap community.

The summer was filled with massive hits that stayed on the charts for months, with some still there to this day. The fall and winter could be filled with many big name artists but the summer gave the fans more than they could ask for.
