BEDMINSTER, NJ — Officer Thomas Finnerty Jr. worked his final shift Wednesday after 35 years on the Bedminster Police Force. 

Finnerty was appointed on Feb. 18, 1986 and attended the 27th Basic Municipal Police Class at the Morris County Police Academy. He was recognized as “Officer of the Year” in 1987 and 1992, received four lifesaving metals during his career, and was detailed to a tour on the Somerset County Prosecutors Organized Crime/ Narcotics Task Force.  

“Officer Finnerty was dedicated to serving the community and developed strong relationships with both residents and business owners,” the Bedminster Police Department said in a Facebook post. “The Bedminster Township Police Department would like to thank Officer Finnerty and his family for the sacrifices that were made during his career. Officer Finnerty was more than a co-worker – he is a true friend and will be missed by this agency.  Bedminster wishes you health and happiness in all your future endeavors. Happy Retirement!”
