NUTLEY, NJ - Three Bloomfield juveniles, and a 19 year old Newark woman were charged with burglary, weapons possession, and conspiracy charges following a targeted home invasion in Nutley on Wednesday. A fifth person was charged with controlled substance possession.
The Nutley Police Department was answering a suspicious persons call on Ravine Ave. Upon arrival to the area, the police discovered three juveniles armed with airsoft rifles. The trio had just burglarized an occupied home. Following a foot pursuit through yards in the area, police apprehended the three youths and a 19 year old woman. All four were taken to Nutley Police Headquarters on Chestnut St and charged.
At the time of the incident, Nutley Chief of Police Thomas Strumolo placed area schools on alert until it was determined that there were no other parties at large.
Nutley police soon discovered that the victim of the home invasion was know to the four suspects, and this was a targeted burglary. Nutley Police Department Detectives obtained a search warrant for the home and found controlled substances in the home. The resident of the home was charged accordingly.
Nutley Police Director Alphonse Petracco stated that this was an isolated incident, and that the four came to Nutley specifically targeting a home and person they were familiar with.
Chief Strumolo commended the anonymous caller that reported the suspicious activity and all the responding Police for their actions. He noted that one officer was injured during the pursuit but was released from the hospital the same day.
