HOLMDEL, N.J. - POW - MIA. It stands for Prisoners of War and Missing in Action

Generations of children, young adults even grown men and women need the acronym above spelled out so they can remember the 86,000 men and women who never came home from the battlefields. There are men and women who carry that flag to this day who are here to help educate and inform, however. They are called  Rolling Thunder.

Hundreds of motorcycles converged on the PNC Bank Arts Center location of the Vietnam Memorial in Holmdel, N.J., for the Rolling Thunder Chapter 2-NJ "Ride for Freedom". It was perfect end of summer weather. Members, friends and supporters gathered to continue to publicize the POW-MIA issue and advocate for all Veterans. According to Rolling Thunder's website:

Rolling Thunder ®, Inc. major function is to publicize the POW-MIA issue; To educate the public that many American prisoners of War were left behind after all past wars; To help correct the past and to protect the future Veterans from being left behind should they become prisoners of war-missing in action. Second, we are committed to helping disabled veterans from all wars. Rolling Thunder ®, Inc. is not connected with or an affiliate of any other organization or political party and we do not raise funds for profit. We are a non-profit organization, which operates under the guidelines of the Federal Government for a non-profit organization as defined by section 501C(4) of the Internal Revenue Code of 1986. Each and every individual donates his or her time because they believe in the issues at hand! Our website is dedicated to all Veterans, past, present and future. We understand the price that some have paid so that we can enjoy freedom.

Pictured below is Louis Amoriello  - President.

Our President

Rolling Thunder Chapter 2 Vice-President Charles Webster captured the energy of the organization and the importance for all citizens to pay attention to the Prisoners of War - Missing in Action issue and its generational importance. They call for everyone to seek education and information  for our past, present and future generations.

Said Webster, "We are here today to bring attention to the plight of POW's and MIA's from our services - since World War 1 there are about 86,000 men and women who have been unaccounted for - nobody knows where they are and what happened to them and we want to bring attention to that. We also do whatever we can to help Veterans who are homeless or are down on their luck so we bring attention to Veterans issues by having these motorcycle rallies. "

Many American Prisoners of War were left behind during all our previous wars. Through events, activities and publicity, the work of Rolling Thunder is meant to correct the past and to protect future veterans from being left behind should they become Prisoners of War or Missing in Action. Watch Vice President Webster below in an exclusive video:

Webster says that there are things we can do for Veterans. "...sometimes it can be simply be walking up to a Veteran and thanking them for their service. Money (donation) is always something that can help. We can help a Veteran pay bills, pay rent, pay a water bill, pay for the heat in the wintertime, those types of things. This can help keep them going so they can sustain themselves. Some of them are disabled or perhaps unemployed and just unable to make the bills. We also try to help Veterans with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). People can help with their time, their money or simply going up to a Veteran and thanking them for their service.

We have to remember those 86,000 men and women who have not come home. That's 86,000 families who have no idea what happened to their loved ones. They don't know if they died or if they were held captive until they died. they don't know if they suffered" said Webster.

Two other  key messages were shared by Webster:

1. Remember what Veterans have done for our country and that,

2. We have a responsibility to Veterans.

86,000 men and women went to fight for our freedom and never came home. Rolling Thunder's message is to honor them and remember them as they work to correct the past and protect future Veterans.
