BLOOMFIELD, NJ - Benjamin Contella was presented with a key to the municipal park system for his 40 years of service to the community. The award was presented by Mayor Michael Venezia and the Township Council at the March 27 council meeting.

The proclamation recognizing Contella reads: 

WHEREAS, the Township of Bloomfield takes great pride in the volunteer efforts of its residents; and

WHEREAS, Benjamin Contella has served on many boards, commissions and civic organizations throughout his 47 years as a resident of Bloomfield; and

WHEREAS, Benjamin and his wife Carol decided to purchase a home and start a family in Bloomfield in 1970; and

WHEREAS, Benjamin and his wife enjoyed taking active roles in their sons Frank, Gennaro & Benjamin Jr’s extracurricular activities; and

WHEREAS, Benjamin was a longtime member of the Franklin Home & School Association; and

WHEREAS, Benjamin served as President, Manager and Coach of Central Little League from 1973 to 1985; and

WHEREAS, Benjamin served as a Manager and Board Member of National Babe Ruth Baseball; and

WHEREAS, Benjamin served as President of the Bloomfield Athletic Hall of Fame; and

WHEREAS, Benjamin was a founding member of the William Foley Football League and lifetime member of the Bloomfield High School Football Booster Club; and

WHEREAS, Benjamin served as an active member of the Bloomfield Recreation Board of Commissioners for 28 years where he oversaw countless youth, teen and adult recreational sports and programs; and

WHEREAS, the Township of Bloomfield and multiple generations of Bloomfield residents have benefited from the aforementioned efforts. NOW, THEREFORE, I, MICHAEL J. VENEZIA, as Mayor of the Township of Bloomfield, along with members of the Township Council do hereby recognize Benjamin Contella for over 40 years of service by presenting him with a key to the Municipal Park System and wish him good health and much happiness in the future.
