BLOOMFIELD, NJ- It was a dominating effort on both sides of the field as the Bloomfield Bengals boys varsity soccer team shutout the Belleville Buccaneers 4-0 in a Super Essex Conference, Liberty Division game last night (Friday, September 21) under the lights at Foley Field.

Bengals junior Anthony Rizzi scored just 2:20 into the game after a Belleville turnover in their defensive end.  The score remained 1-0 until 4:53 into the second half when Bloomfield scored again to go up 2-0.

Rizzi notched his second goal of the game with 16:30 left in the second half.  The Bengals added another goal by senior Jason Ricca on a direct free kick with 14:20 left in the game to close out the scoring at 4-0.

With the win, Bloomfield improves to 2-3 overall and 2-2 in the conference.  They hope to carry this momentum into a non-conference match-up at Newark East Side this Monday, September 24 at 4 pm.  Action later next week sees includes a conference tilt at West Essex on Thursday, September 27, 4 pm.

In previous action this season, Bloomfield lost to Glen Ridge 3-2 on September 17, lost to Livingston 3-1 on September 15, defeated Montclair Kimberly 3-2 on September 13, and lost to Verona 2-1 on September 7.

With the loss, Belleville drops to 1-3-2 overall and 0-2-2 in the conference.  Their most recent game was a 2-0 conference loss at Verona on September 18.  Verona is now 2-2-2 overall and 2-1 in the conference.

Belleville’s next game is a non-conference affair at Millburn this Monday, September 24, 4 pm.
