NUTLEY, NJ- Nutley American once again got the better of Bloomfield, this time in a 3-2 nail-biter during the Championship Game of the 12-year-old District 8 Little League Tournament tonight at Nutley American Field.

Heading into tonight, Bloomfield won Pool A with a 3-1 record, while Nutley American won Pool B at a perfect 4-0.  Bloomfield’s only loss in pool play prior to this final game was a 13-8 defeated at the hands of Nutley American last Thursday, July 5.
This was a much different game than Thursday’s slugfest.  Both teams scored a run in the 1st inning.  An error, walk, and a double let to Bloomfield’s run, which Nutley got a double and a Kevin Jiratatprasot RBI single.
Things remained tied until Nutley scored in the bottom of the 3rd inning after two singles and an error.  Bloomfield tied things up at 2-2 scoring in the top of the 5th off a walk, single, error and a sacrifice fly.
Nutley answered back in the bottom of the 5th with a walk, a field’s choice to advance the runner, and an error that plated the eventual game winning run from second base.
Bloomfield threatened in the top of the 6th inning after a leadoff single and a passed ball put the tying run in scoring position, but Nutley stopped the rally with a strikeout to end the game.
Nutley American finished undefeated in the tournament.  American previously defeated Livingston 6-0 on Saturday, June 23; Belleville 10-0 on Thursday, June 28; Nutley East 2-0 on Saturday, June 30; and Bloomfield 13-8 on Thursday.

Bloomfield only losses were to Nutley American.  They previously defeated Caldwell 24-0 on Saturday, June 23; Ironbound 23-0 on Thursday, June 28; and North Ward 6-0 on Sunday, July 1.
Nutley American now advances to the New Jersey Section 2 Tournament, with their first game this Saturday, July 14, 4 pm in Ridgefield.
To update the 10-year-old District 8 Tournament, Nutley American sits atop the standings at 4-0 in pool-play, with victories over North Ward 11-1 on Sunday, June 24; Ironbound 10-0 on Thursday, June 28; Nutley East 13-2 on Monday, July 2; and Caldwell 6-2 on Saturday, July 7.
Nutley American plays No. 2 seed Livingston in the Finals this Wednesday, July 11, 6 pm in Livingston.
