BLOOMFIELD, NJ - When the switch was flicked at Bloomfield Town Hall, Mayor Michael Venezia illuminated the township tree and shed light on the season of giving to help those in need in the township. Mayor Venezia stated:

December is a special time of the year in Bloomfield. Our outdoor community activities put on by the Parks and Recreation Department tend to decrease, but our sense of community never does. We have begun the six-week-long charitable lead up to the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service, and invited residents to: donate food and new baby items at Town Hall, fire stations, or the public library from December 6th to January 13th; participate in food drives at Jack’s Food Town on December 16 and ShopRite on January 7; as well as fill up our shelter and library’s wish list of supplies online at and, respectively. Councilwoman Dr. Wartyna Davis has spearheaded these efforts this year, and I want to thank her and our other hard-working Council people for their dedication to moving Bloomfield forward through fiscally responsible and environmentally conscious management.

I would like to thank the Bloomfield High School Concert Choir and the Bloomfield Girl and Boy Scouts for making last night’s Holiday Tree Lighting ceremony so festive.

I would also like to thank the brave men and women of the Bloomfield Police Department, Fire Department, and Department of Public Works for their year-round work keeping Bloomfield families safe. Finally, I would like to thank perhaps our town’s greatest asset, its community activists. This year, Bloomfield residents took a leadership role in collecting supplies for those affected by hurricanes, and organizing informative summits, like tonight’s drug awareness panel discussion taking place at Bloomfield Middle School. Bloomfield’s collaborative relationship between our private activists and public servants is the key to our town’s strong sense of community, and limitless possibilities.

On behalf of the entire Bloomfield Township Council, I would like to wish everyone a Happy Holiday season, and a Healthy New Year!

Michael Venezia
