BLOOMFIELD, NJ - The Bloomfield Township Council approved the appointment of Wilfredo Benitez to the position of Bloomfield Municipal Judge. Benitez has served as Municipal Judge for the City of East Orange and the Township of Belleville, and was previously a public defender with the City of East Orange.

“The Bloomfield Township Council members and I approved Wilfredo for this position due to his professionalism, experience, and dedication to justice,” said Mayor Michael Venezia. “We are excited to welcome him to Bloomfield, and for him to begin what we hope will be a long career with the Township of Bloomfield.”

Judge Benitez, who was born in Puerto Rico and is completely fluent in Spanish, will be the first Hispanic Municipal Judge in Bloomfield’s history. He is a graduate of Columbia University and earned his law degree from Rutgers University. After graduating from law school, Benitez worked for almost a decade at private law firms before beginning his own practice in 2000. He will be sworn into office on October 6th, and immediately begin his duties.

“I am honored to have the opportunity to serve the Township of Bloomfield and its residents, and administer justice to the best of my abilities,” said Judge Benitez. “Having lived and worked in Essex County for the last 20 years, I have a deep understanding for the people in this community, and situations they may find themselves in. As Municipal Judge, I will enforce the rights of all defendants in my court room.”
