BLOOMFIELD, NJ - Bloomfield police today announced the arrest of a burglary suspect with active warrants from Hudson County. The individual is also the suspect in commercial burglaries in more than 10 jurisdictions.
Bloomfield Police responded to a commercial burglary alarm at 135 Bloomfield Avenue. An office suite door was damaged and appears to have been forced open. BPD discovered Kareem Hawkins age 40 of Newark inside the building. He was in possession of a pry tool.
135 Bloomfield Avenue is a strip mall containing Staples and Radio Shack.
Hawkins is a suspect in multiple commercial burglaries in over 10 jurisdictions. He has an active burglary warrant issued by Hudson County Sheriff Office. Hawkins is presently being held at the Essex County Correctional Facility.
Bloomfield Police Director Samuel DeMaio commended the outstanding police work of the Patrol Officers in bringing this habitual burglar to justice.
