Bloomfield Police Blotter April 23 - 30 2017


BLOOMFIELD, NJ - The following police blotter has been issued by Crime Analyst Ralph A.Marotti of the Bloomfield Police Department.


04/26/2017- Orlando Christmas age 54 of Newark was arrested at 9:50pm and charged with Shoplifting. Mr. Christmas who has been arrested multiple times for shoplifting throughout the Township, was seen entering the CVS Store on Broad Street. PO Robert Kish who was on patrol recognized Mr. Christmas from prior arrests and entered the store. Mr. Christmas was observed removing a mustache trimmer and attempted to exit without paying. A search incident to arrest led to the discovery of additional stolen merchandise, a glass pipe and (2) crack vials. He was charged accordingly and held in lieu of bail.

04/27/2017-A Mongoose Mountain Bicycle valued at $300.00 dollars was stolen from a bike rack at the corner of Franklin Street and Broad Street. The theft is believed to have occurred between 9am and 3pm. The bicycle was locked with a chain.

04/27/2017- Several tools and a ladder were reported stolen from a work van parked on Berkeley Place. The registered owner of a 2016 Ram Van discovered the tools missing after a neighbor noticed the van door open. The van was parked in the afternoon hours on 04/26 with the owner returning the following morning.

04/28/2017- The Home Depot Store located at 60 Orange Street reported a black male in his 20’s stole a Milwaukee drill and fled the store on foot. Police checked the area for the suspect having negative results. Incident captured on security video and was forwarded to police for further investigation.

04/28/2017- The owner of a 2007 Audi reported his wallet was stolen from his vehicle. The vehicle was parked on Elmwood Avenue. The passenger door was discovered slightly open and upon further inspection he discovered his wallet missing. The owner is unsure if the doors were locked.

04/29/2017- Police were dispatched to the Stop & Shop Store on a shoplifting incident that occurred earlier in the day. Loss Prevention Officer, while reviewing security footage observed a black male approximately 30-40 years old placing multiple Gillette razor cartridges inside his shirt. The footage was forwarded to police for further investigation.


04/29/2017-Leon Chen age 21 of Bloomfield was arrested at 12:35am and charged with DUI. PO Justin Smith initiated a motor vehicle stop after observing a vehicle driving northbound on Broad Street without headlights on and the front bumper dragging on the ground. The driver Leon Chen was found to be operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of a controlled dangerous substance. Mr. Chen had also struck a parked vehicle on Broad Street which caused the damage to his vehicle. Mr. Chen was issued several summonses and later released to a friend. The vehicle a 2008 Acura TSX was impounded by police.


04/30/2017-A 2 nd floor apartment on Edison Street was burglarized while the homeowner was away on vacation. The apartment door was discovered pushed in with damage to the door frame. The bedrooms were ransacked with several electronic items missing. Police are actively investigating the incident.

Warrant Arrest

04/24/2017- Richard Barone age 51 of Bloomfield NJ was arrested for an active warrant issued by Bloomfield. Officers initiated a field inquiry after observing Mr. Barone at 3:49am riding a bicycle on Grove Street with no reflectors or lights. He was later released with a new court date, after posting bail in the amount of $1,000.00 dollars.

04/26/2017-Hassan Johnson age 26 of Bloomfield NJ was arrested at 11:37am at Police Headquarters. Mr. Johnson was found to have an active Newark warrant and was also wanted by the Essex County Sheriff Department for a violation of probation. He was detained until the arrival of the E.C. Sheriff’s Department.

04/27/2017-Nicholas Santos age 24 of Kearny was arrested at 4am after police were dispatched to Hoover Avenue on a suspicious vehicle. Mr. Santos the driver of the vehicle was found to have an active Kearny warrant. He was transported to headquarters where he was issued a new court date and ROR’d by Kearny PD.

Motor Vehicle Theft

04/24/2017- The registered owner of a 2002 Chrysler wagon reported she parked her vehicle on Willow Street during the evening hours. Upon her return in the morning she discovered the vehicle missing. The vehicle was recovered the following day in East Orange.

04/25/2017- A 2010 Honda Accord was reported stolen from Elston Street. The registered owner discovered the vehicle missing in the morning hours.

04/25/2017- The registered owner of a 2012 Toyota Camry reported she parked her vehicle in front of her home on Franklin Street during the evening hours. The vehicle was discovered missing the following morning.


04/24/2017-Patrick Cunha age 26 of Newark NJ was arrested at 5:23pm and charged with Possession of CDS. Officers responded to the intersection of Columbus Street and Alva Street on a report of a red Honda, whose occupants were smoking marijuana. Officers located the vehicle and initiated a motor vehicle stop. The driver Mr. Cunha was found to be in possession of suspected marijuana. He was issued a summons and later released.

04/26/2017-Rosetta Robinson age 24 of Newark was arrested at 8:33pm and charged with Possession of CDS. Officers detected an odor of marijuana emanating from the interior of Ms. Robinsons vehicle during a motor vehicle stop. A small plastic bag of suspected marijuana was discovered in the center console. She was issued a summons and released with a pending court date

Man Dies from South Orange House Fire on Sunday

SOUTH ORANGE, NJ - A man has died from a house fire on Warwick Avenue in South Orange on Sunday afternoon, stated Thomas Fennelly, Essex County Chief Assistant Prosecutor.
