BLOOMFIELD, NJ - The following police blotter has been issued by Crime Analyst Ralph A.Marotti of the Bloomfield Police Department.

Theft

05/08/2017- Omar Fontanez age 37 of Bloomfield NJ was arrested at 10:25am and charged with Shoplifting. Stop & Shop security observed Mr. Fontanez conceal 8 boxes of Afrin Nasal Spray inside his waistband. He was detained until arrival of police.

05/08/2017- The owner of Dunkin Donuts located at 250 Glenwood reported the theft of money from several registers. The suspect a Dunkin Donut Employee was captured on security video taking the money. The employee has since been terminated. A summons has been issued with a pending court date

05/10/2017- The Home depot Store located at 60 Orange Street reported a black male wearing a black vest attempted to shoplift a Makita Grinder valued at $69.00 dollars. The incident occurred at approximately 10:47am, when store security asked the suspect to show his receipt before exiting the store. The suspect handed the merchandise over and fled on foot towards Dodd Street.

05/11/2017- The owner of a Nissan Altima reporting an Apple IPad stolen from the center console of her vehicle. The vehicle was parked overnight on Grove Street. Police are actively investigating incident.

05/11/2017- Mark Piacenza Jr age 35 of Bloomfield NJ was arrested at 9:03am and charged with Shoplifting. The store manager of Super Fresh located at 19 Belleville Ave reported a white male suspect stole 15 packs of Scott tissue paper and fled in a red vehicle. The Store manager provided police with store security video, which captured the suspect and vehicle. Police were able to identify the suspect as Mr. Piacenza and issued a warrant for the theft. Mr. Piacenza was later arrested after officers observed him walking on Harrison Street.

05/13/2017- A wallet was reported stolen from a vehicle parked on Montgomery Street. The owner parked his vehicle in the driveway leaving the doors unlocked. Upon his return in the morning he discovered the wallet missing. 

Criminal Mischief

05/10/2017- (3) Juvenile males were detained after Police received several reports of occupants in a blue Honda Civic throwing eggs at moving vehicles. At approximately 9:22pm a Township Ambulance radioed that a blue Honda Civic occupied with males were in the process of throwing eggs at their ambulance. Police located the vehicle on James Street, which was occupied with the (3) males and several egg cartons. The male occupants all juveniles residing in Bloomfield were transported to the Youth Aid Bureau and later released to their parents. Police are investigating several similar incidents involving the 3 juveniles that same evening.

Burglary 05/11/2017-An apartment on Delaware Place was burglarized between the hours of 2:00pm and 12:30am. The homeowner discovered a side window open as well as his apartment side door. A 55 inch RCA flat screen TV is reported missing from the apartment

Warrant Arrest

05/08/2017- Paul Alva age 27 of Newark, NJ was arrested at 2:24pm for an active warrant issued by Kearny PD. Officers were dispatched to the Marshalls Store located at 8 Franklin Street on a possible shoplifter. Officers located Mr. Alva who was in possession of stolen clothing from Marshalls. A record check revealed the active warrant. Mr. Alva was charged with Shoplifting and held until the arrival of Kearny Police.

05/09/2017- Amir Bateman age 31 of Newark NJ was arrested at 11:03am for an active warrant issued by the City of Newark. Officers conducting a Pedestrian Safety Detail in the area of Glenwood Ave and Washington Street initiated a motor vehicle stop on a Nissan Altima. The registered owner Mr. Bateman, who was operating the vehicle was a suspended driver. He was issued 2 motor vehicle summons and ROR on the Newark Warrant.

05/12/2017- Maurad Smith age 25 of Irvington NJ was arrested at 10:04pm for an active criminal warrant issued by Irvington PD. Officers were alerted to the active warrant during a motor vehicle stop in the parking lot of CVS. The driver, Mr. Smith was transported to police headquarters where he was issued a new court date and released.

Motor Vehicle Theft

05/08/2017- A 2006 Honda CBR Motorcycle was reported stolen from Orange Street. The theft occurred at approximately 2:45pm. (2) Suspects on a silver motorcycle were seen pulling up to the parked motorcycle. The suspects broke the steering lock and pushed the bike down Orange Street. The suspects were seen driving away on both motorcycles towards the Home Depot.

CDS

05/09/2017-Joshua Vargas age 20 of Newark and Junel Nunez age 20 of Bloomfield were both arrested at 11:17pm and charged with Possession of CDS. Officers Donald Grey and Matthew Rubbinaccio initiated a motor vehicle stop on Ampere Parkway after observing a grey Acura with dark tinted windows. Officers detected a strong odor of marijuana emanating from the interior of the vehicle, which led to the discovery of a clear bag of suspected marijuana inside the vehicle. Both occupants were placed under arrest and transported to police headquarters. Mr. Vargas was additionally issued motor vehicle summons for Safety Glass Requirement and Failure to possess Insurance card. Both were released with pending court dates.

DUI

05/12/2017- Manuel Matheu age 36 of Allentown PA was arrested at 10:43pm and charged with DUI. Police were dispatched to the area of 36 Broad Street on an intoxicated male entering his vehicle. Officers located the vehicle traveling on Bloomfield Avenue and initiated a motor vehicle stop. Officers detected an odor of alcohol emanating from the drivers breath during the stop. Several Standardized Field Sobriety tests were conducted which led the officers to believe Mr. Matheu was operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol. He was charged accordingly and issued motor vehicle summons for Driving without a License, Failure to wear a Seatbelt, Failure to Signal and Open Container of Alcoholic Beverage.
