BLOOMFIELD, NJ - Bloomfield Police have made an arrest in connection with the March 8 burglary of the Subway location on Bloomfield Avenue. Security footage from residential and commercial camera gave police the information need to eventually arrest the individual who caused more than $20,000 in damage while committing the burglary.
Jason Henriques age 23 of Newark NJ was arrested on March 21.
According to Bloomfield Police, an individual entered the Subway location through an unlocked rear door. Video footage from inside the shop showed a lone white male enter the building.
He then removed the cash from inside of a register as well as the safe. A construction type rolling container was used to transport the safe as he fled on foot. Security camera footage from both residential and commercial locations recorded the suspects path as he headed out of Bloomfield and into Newark
Bloomfield Detectives were able to determine that the actor resided in a one block area on North 5th Street in Newark, NJ. Witnesses in Newark were shown still photos of the actor who provided a possible first name of the actor as “Jason “ who lives in the area of North Newark, NJ. Detectives were were able to match a photo of a North 5th Street resident to the still photos they recovered.
On the morning of March 21, 2017, Detectives set up surveillance in the area of North 5th Street Newark where Henriques was observed by detectives and taken into custody. The stolen safe was then recovered at a nearby abandoned house.
Henriques was charged with burglary and theft, processed and transported to the Essex County Correctional Facility with a no bail option.
Police Director Samuel DeMaio praised the outstanding work of the Detectives, along with residents of Bloomfield and Newark for the overwhelming support as they let Detectives into their homes and businesses to review video footage which ultimately led to the capture and arrest..
