Shoplifting: 

08/08/2020-Anthony Walker age 52 of Newark NJ-Officers responded to 135 Bloomfield Avenue (Staples Store) on a shoplifting incident. Patrol Officers arrested Mr. Walker for concealing numerous soap and deodorant inside of his black back pack and attempted to walk out of the store. The items were valued at $116.00 and were recovered by Staples. Mr. Walker was arrested and charged with shoplifting and has a pending court date.

08/03/2020-An officer took a report of a theft that occurred on Ashland Avenue. The Complainant parked her vehicle in front of 150 Ashland on 8/1/2020. When she returned on 8/3/2020, her vehicle was making a loud noise. It was later discovered that her catalytic converter was cut and removed from her 1999 Honda Accord. This incident is under investigation. 

08/07/2020-An officer took a report of a theft that occurred on Park Street. A van belonging to Park Methodist Church was parked in their lot on 7/29/2020. When they attempted to use the van on 8/7/2020, it would not start. It was later discovered that the Catalytic Converter was cut from underneath the vehicle. This incident is under investigation. 

Theft from Auto 

08/04/2020-Officers responded to the area of North 16th St on report of a burglary into several automobiles. Area residents report that sometime overnight or early morning on 8/4/2020, their vehicle windows were smashed out by someone. The suspect(s) entered the vehicles and stole numerous items from inside. Items stolen were a GPS unit, flashlight, tools and some cash. This incident is under investigation. Package Theft: 

08/08/2020-A Tomar Court resident responded to the police desk to report a theft that occurred. On or about July 17th, 2020, Fed-Ex delivered a Hewlet Packard computer that was left on the front porch. When the resident checked for the package it was not on the porch. The computer is valued at $900.00. This incident is under investigation. 

Motor Vehicle Theft: 

08/04/2020-Officers responded to the area of Hill Street on report of a motor vehicle theft that occurred during the overnight hours on 8/3/2020 to 8/4/2020. The resident’s white 2016 Mazda CX5 was parked in his driveway on 8/3/2020. On 8/4/2020 he observed that the vehicle was gone. The vehicle was entered NCIC stolen. This incident is under investigation. 

08/07/2020-Officers responded to Orange Street on report of a motor vehicle theft that occurred overnight between 8/6/2020 and 8/7/2020. The resident parked his black 2008 Chevy Tahoe in front of the residence on 8/6/2020. When the owner went to his vehicle on 8/7/2020, the vehicle was gone. The vehicle was entered NCIC stolen. This incident is under investigation. 

Carjacking: 

08/04/2020-Rasheed Hilton age 30 of Bloomfield NJ-Officers received a call of a stolen vehicle in progress from the Davey Street apartment complex. The victim/owner of the car observed Mr. Hilton in the process of stealing his vehicle which was running, had the keys in the ignition and the door open. As Mr. Hilton entered the vehicle and attempted to drive away, the victim/owner of the car, jumped on the hood of the vehicle to prevent the theft. Mr. Hilton proceeded to drive the vehicle away with the victim on the hood of the car and head towards Belleville Avenue. 

This incident was observed by an off-duty NJ Transit Police Officer who called 9-1-1 and supplied communications with details and direction of travel of the vehicle. A Bloomfield Officer working an authorized construction detail observed the vehicle as it approached JFK Drive and Belleville Avenue. The officer was able to conduct a motor vehicle stop and make an arrest. Mr. Hilton was arrested and charged with carjacking and transported to the Essex County Jail. The victim was not injured during the incident. 

Robbery: 

08/09/2020-Officers responded to Berkeley Heights Park on report of an armed robbery that just occurred. A female victim reports that two African American male juveniles brandished a handgun and demanded her pocketbook. The female refused to give the suspects her pocketbook and began to yell for help. The two juveniles then fled the area on foot. Patrol Officers observed two males fitting the description of the actors at the intersection of Watsessing Avenue and Bloomfield Avenue. The two juveniles were positively identified by the victim and they were placed under arrest. During a search incident to arrest of the juveniles, a steel Airsoft handgun was in the waistband of one of the juveniles. The two juveniles were charged with armed robbery and weapon offenses and transported to the Essex County Youth Facility.

These incidents are currently being investigated by Bloomfield Detectives. Due to the on-going investigations, information will not be released at this time. The information is released to the press at the discretion of the police department and may not represent the total scope of police activity. All persons are presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
