BLOOMFIELD, NJ--On 08/04 Bloomfield Police Officers received a call of a stolen vehicle in progress from the Davey Street apartment complex. The victim/owner of the car observed someone in the process of stealing his vehicle which was running, had the keys in the ignition and the door open. As the thief entered the vehicle and attempted to drive away, the victim/owner of the car, jumped on the hood of the vehicle to prevent the theft. The thief proceeded to drive the vehicle away with the victim on the hood of the car and head towards Belleville Avenue. 

The suspect was identified as 30 year old Rasheed Hilton of Bloomfield NJ.

This incident was observed by an off-duty NJ Transit Police Officer who called 9-1-1 and supplied communications with details and direction of travel of the vehicle. A Bloomfield Officer working an authorized construction detail observed the vehicle as it approached JFK Drive and Belleville Avenue. The officer was able to conduct a motor vehicle stop and make an arrest. Mr. Hilton was arrested and charged with carjacking.
