BLOOMFIELD, NJ-- Mayor Michael Venezia held a Bloomfield Township Regular Meeting in the Council Chambers of the Municipal Building on Monday evening June 25 at 7 PM. Council members in attendance were First Ward Councilwoman Jenny Mundell, Second Ward Councilman Nicholas Joanow, Third Ward Councilwoman Sarah Cruz, Councilwoman Wartyna Davis, and Councilman Richard Rockwell.
The meeting’s agenda included proclamations for Open Space Month, LGBT Pride Month, Keeping Families Together and also one for a Bloomfield Soccer Club team.
The U12 Girls Bloomfield Strikers is a group of young girls who go to school in the Bloomfield School District. Together the Strikers went down in Bloomfield Soccer Club history by becoming the first Bloomfield girls travel team to take the Mid-New-Jersey-Youth Soccer-Associations (MNJYSA) League and Champions titles and finish first overall. The team won against Berkeley Heights with a score of 1-0.
Those who accepted this honor at the meeting were team members Victoria Parelli, Emily Nicosia, Paula Sarango, Tiana Navarez, Katie Matulac, Kaitlyn Laino, Bella Siejkowski,Angela Anazldi, Catherine Parelli, Sophie Langton, Julia Miller, and coaches Peter Parelli and Anthony Nicosia. A majority of the evening’s audience members included proud family members taking photos and videos of the brief but exciting ceremony as Mayor Venezia handed each girl and coach his or her own proclamation document.
The team formed very recently, according to a very delighted team trainer Karen Testa.
“I train the team along with the coaches,” said Testa, “The team formed 2 years ago and this past Spring season were undefeated with 9 wins and one tie. They will move up to full sided 11 v 11 soccer in the fall.”
“The girls scored 31 goals and only allowed 13 during the regular 10 game season,” added Parelli.
The council also put many ideas to a vote Monday night. Among the proposed ordinances and consent resolutions covered included traffic and road regulations and plenty of other projects regarding the town. Louis Venezia was appointed Fire Chief of the Bloomfield Fire Department, Robert Barra and Brian McDade were appointed Deputy Chiefs, Martin Kaczmarczyk and Robert Griffin were appointed Fire Captains and Thomas Wilson was appointed Fire Official. They will officially be taking on these position on July 10, 2018.
Townspeople brought up certain grievances of their own, such as Star Ledger deliveries, detour difficulties, and concerns regarding particular streets. All in all, discussions about traffic were a popular theme.
