MILLBURN, NJ - The Millburn boys soccer team made up for lost time with a big victory Thursday afternoon.
Playing just their third game in the last 14 days, the Millers defeated Bloomfield, 2-0, in the first round of the Essex County Tournament. The victory snapped a three-game winless streak for third-seeded Millburn (8-4-1), which will host Newark East Side in the next round on Saturday.
Millburn scored a goal in each half against 14th-seeded Bloomfield (8-9). Jack Marx finished a rebound by Matt Jordan with five minutes left in the first half. With 19:49 left in the second half, Millburn extended its lead to 2-0 when Noah Schwab sent a cross from the left corner to Matt Jordan in front of the net and Jordan finished the play with a shot past the Bloomfield goalie.
After that, defenders Will Eschenbach and Zach Butter in Millburn's back end combined with goalie Kyle Speckhart (four saves) to finish off the shutout of the Bengals.
