WEST CALDWELL, NJ — Plans are heating up for the third annual Caldwell-West Caldwell Education Foundation (CWCEF) 5K fundraiser that will route runners through Grover Cleveland Park on Saturday.

Over the past two years, the CWCEF 5K has attracted more than 600 runners and walkers for its family-and community-centered event. The 5K begins at 9:00 a.m. at James Caldwell High School (JCHS), where participants in the NJ Track and Field Organization-sanctioned run will be entertained by a DJ, offered light refreshments and have the opportunity to browse sponsor tables both before and after the race.

The race, a certified 500 Grand Prix Event, will take runners up Westville Avenue and into Grover Cleveland Park, where, after taking a loop around the pond, runners will return to JCHS.  Prizes will be awarded to the top runners, with recognition given to runners placing in the top of their age groups.

In addition to attracting professional and serious runners, other participants in the CWCEF have included teachers and principals in the district, as well as entire families.

“The Education Foundation’s 5K is truly a win-win event," said CWCEF chair Mary Ann Campion. "It brings the entire community together for a fun, healthy activity while raising valuable funds for the Education Foundation."

One-hundred percent of profits generated from the CWCEF 5K targets programs benefiting all children in the Caldwell-West Caldwell school district. The not-for-profit foundation has helped to fund educational programs and purchase equipment for classroom use that would not necessarily be available within the district’s budget.

Some of the recent programs the CWCEF has funded include a Greenhouse Garden at the Grover Cleveland Middle School (GCMS), a broadcasting booth at JCHS and a writing program and redesign at all the elementary schools' media centers.

Sponsors that have pledged support for The CWC Education Foundation, a 501C(3) tax-exempt charitable organization, include Investor Savings, Glen Rock Hams, Levine Lawyers, Stan Hladik’s The Secret Insurance Agency, Rotary Club of the Caldwell’s, Lakeland Bank, 360 Fitness Center, Campy Deeny Riback, Willing Hearts, NJ Sharing Network, Iron Physical Therapy and the Orchard School.

Participants in the 5K may register online at cwcef5k.org or in person. Registration is $30 for adults and $25 for youth. USATF-NJ Members pay a flat fee of $22.
